The device

A motion-sensing instrument

A small handheld device that senses how you move — the swing of a strum, the angle you hold it at — the same way a guitar responds to a pick.

The software

Sound that follows the motion

Software built alongside the device turns that motion into guitar sound in real time, and is where tone-shaping and AI composition are being developed.

What's real right now.

AirKords is being built in the open. Here's an honest split of what's working today versus what's still being developed, followed by dated updates from the build.

First strum, on screen

The idea behind the name

AirKords started life as Airomote — a general-purpose motion controller for games, music and workouts, reading movement directly from the device rather than a camera. The project has since taken on the AirKords name, with guitar as its focus.

First public demo

AirKords went in front of a live crowd for the first time, set up next to an amp at a tech meetup — strumming the air and hearing it back through real speakers.
